Union Army Gunboat Smith Briggs

In my Saw the Elephant Civil War Blog, I have been writing about the Battle of Smithfield, Virginia, in which the Army gunboat Smith Briggs was sunk. Most people do not know that the Union Army operated their own gunboats (I just learned myself) and that they also had transports.
