MARCH 3RD, 1865: The USS Glide captured the schooner Malta in Vermilion Bayou, Louisiana, with a cargo of cotton.
The USS Honeysuckle sighted the sloop Phantom as she attempted to enter the Suwannee River on the west coast of Florida. An armed boat from the ship overhauled and captured the blockade runner and her cargo of bar iron and liquors.

Lt. Gift Reflects on Fate of the South
FEBRUARY 28TH, 1865: Lt. George W. Gift, CSN, on sick leave at his wife's home in Georgia, reflected on the fate of the South: "It is all too disheartening! The press brings accounts of new defeat for us. The Water Witch has been captured and destroyed. Mobile has fallen, so that all the ports in the Confederacy are lost! That goes for the Navy...."
ALSO ON FEBRUARY 28TH, 1865: Armed boats from the USS Honeysuckle forced the blockade running British schooner Sort aground on a reef near the mouth of Crystal River, Florida, where she was abandoned. The Sort had previously been captured in December 1864 by the USS O.H. Lee.

Action in Alabama and Florida
JANUARY 17TH, 1865: Naval forces of the Mississippi Squadron cooperated with Army cavalry in a successful attack on the town of Somerville, Alabama. They expedition resulted in the capture of 90 prisoners, 150 horses and one piece of artillery.
Two armed boats from the USS Honeysuckle captured the British blockade running schooner Augusta at the mouth of the Suwanee River with cargo of pig lead, flour, gunny cloth and coffee.

A Confederate Plan to Destroy Porter's Fleet
APRIL 29TH, 1864: Major General Taylor, CSA, seeking to take advantage of Porter's vulnerable position above the Alexandria falls, proposes they "convert one of the captured transports into a fire ship to burn the fleet now crowded above the upper falls."
A Union boat expedition up the Rappahannock River in Virginia engaged Confederate cavalry and destroyed a camp.
The USS Honeysuckle captured the blockade-running schooner Miriam west of Key West. It had boarded the Miriam the day before and found its papers in order and released the Miriam. However, the Honeysuckle kept an eye on the Miriam and determined the ship was not following the course it should have been. Another boarding and mail for the Confederate States was found and the Miriam was seized.
