150 Years Ago: August 8-9th, 1863-- Good Day for the Sagamore, Farragut Feted
AUGUST 8TH USS Sagamore captured the British sloop Clara Louise off Indian River, Florida. Later the same day, it captured British schooners Southern Rights and Shot and Confederate schooner Ann off Gilbert's Bar.
AUGUST 9TH: Rear Admiral Farragut arrived in New York and was treated as a hero. Two blockade-runners seized at the mouth of the Rio Grande River.
