MARCH 1ST, 1864: The CSS Florida escaped from Funchal, Madeira, eluding the USS St. Louis. The escape was blamed on the fact that the St. Louis was not a steamer. //// USS Connecticut captured blockade-running British steamer Scotia at sea with cargo of cotton of Cape Fear, NC. //// USS Roebuck had been capturing quite a few blockade-runners in Florida.
